Earlier in March, Saudi Arabia finalized a 10-year contract with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) to host the world’s most renowned wrestling bouts on home ground. Today, wrestling history is being made as the WWE’s inaugural Greatest Royal Rumble event launches in King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in the Red Sea coastal city of Jeddah.
WWE Superstars meet the press in KSA before showtime.
According to Forbes, this star-studded show will feature seven championship matches and special appearances by stars like Triple H and Rey Mysterio. It will also include the first-ever 50-man Greatest Royal Rumble match featuring wrestlers such as Braun Strowman, Daniel Bryan, Kurt Angle, Big Show, Kane, Chris Jericho, The New Day, and Elias, eclipsing the 40-man battle in 2011, making it the largest event in WWE history.
Yesterday, WWE superstars Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, Finn Bálor, and Titus O’Neil met in the morning with a number of Saudi and regional media representatives to answer questions and pose for photographs. As reported by Saudi Gazette, Reigns expressed the group’s enthusiasm at being in the Kingdom while speaking to the press, saying, “We are excited to bring WWE LIVE in Saudi Arabia following overwhelming demand from our large, passionate fan base in the country.”
Later that evening, photos of some of the biggest icons in WWE dining with Saudi leaders surfaced online. Fan favorites such as Vince McMahon, Brock Lesnar, and Undertaker were seen breaking bread with dignitaries, while being entertained with live traditional music.
