After the legendary ban lift on women driving in Saudi Arabia, another milestone is up on the schedule. Saudi Arabian women will soon be granted licences to operate family cabs!
The female Saudi drivers are expected to undergo proper training, have a general driving licence, and a clean conduct sheet. The cars they drive should be in tiptop shape as well, with an AC system, a GPS, and should be registered as a taxi. The company or people operating the cab service should also have a functioning electronic payment system.
As for the rules of conduct, the passengers that ride the car need to include at least one other woman, men or children are not allowed to be seated in front next to the driver, and the driver is expected not to smoke or “roam” the streets looking for passengers, in order to ensure a proper process.
This huge announcement comes after multiple other steps that have aided Saudi women in entering diverse job markets. Huge names like Careem and Uber have already recruited their first female drivers, an all-female ambulance is operating in Khobar, and now a Saudi woman can drive you and your family around the kingdom.
All these achievements fall under the Saudi Vision 2030, headed by the young and innovative crown prince, Mohammad bin Salman, and we are very excited for the many more to come!
