Saudi Arabia’s 88th National Day was a sight to behold as the kingdom celebrated with a spectacular festive program for the public to enjoy.
To mark the occasion, government bodies and authorities worked together to make the day a special one with activities and events that were held across every Saudi city, province and region so that all Saudis could celebrate the public holiday in style and these are just 5 of the things they did to make it one to remember:
A National Entertainment Day Carnival
Running across the National Day weekend, Riyadh’s Prince Turki Al Awwal Road was home to one of the kingdom’s largest carnivals, the National Entertainment Day Carnival.
The spectacular event bought together local and international musical orchestras, fireworks, acrobatics and laser light shows to name just a few of the activities the carnival had to offer.
The Sky Of Dreams
Jeddah celebrated in the sky with a rather special event organized by the kingdom’s General Entertainment Authority. Inspired by Saudi history and its transformation from the past to present day, the Sky of Dreams show presented giant balloons accompanied by a 3D display of national images, alongside a live orchestra.
Aerobatics & Pyrotechnics Show
Khobar’s sky was electric and alive this National Day as a line-up of small aircrafts took to the skies at the Khobar Sea Front to loop, spin and glide for excited spectators. The aerobatic stunt show amazed the public in the daylight of the afternoon whilst fireworks and light shows lit up the city in the evening.
Cirque du Soleil’s Saudi Debut
World famous, Montreal based entertainment troupe, Cirque du Soleil, headed to Saudi Arabia for the first time to perform a special show specifically to celebrate Saudi Arabia’s National Day in Riyadh.
The hour long performance featured over 80 artists, 250 costumes and a 300-foot stage at the King Fahd International Stadium. The one time only event was one of the biggest productions, for a single show, the Cirque du Soleil Company has ever created.
A Firework Display That Dazzled
Saudi Arabia planned to break a Guinness world record this National Day by launching approximately 100,000 fireworks at once from 58 platforms located across 13 provinces to visually form the green background of the Saudi flag while drones created an image of the flag’s white horizontal sword and the Shahada. As it all went ahead, the kingdom simultaneously broke another record for forming the largest flag in the world.
