Since 2008, Carolina Herrera has globally supported women who put up a daily fight against breast cancer through awareness, support and funding initiatives. And to commemorate the 10th anniversary, the folks at CH Carolina Herrera, the brand’s lifestyle collection with ready-to-wear and accessories for men, women and children, have turned to model and philanthropist Jessica Kahawaty and her mother, Rita, who won her battle against the disease.
For the first time on record, the mother and daughter duo share their brave story of strength, persistence and positivity. On the importance of family support, Jessica, a Lebanese-Australian who identifies herself as a humanitarian, comments: “Family plays a huge role when it comes to this situation. They are pillars, a source of positivity and strength, a reason to keep fighting as my mother used to tell us.”
Jessica, a regional darling thanks to her regular visits to Dubai during her stint as “Project Runway Middle East” host, also said, “We all stood beside my mother during this difficult time and made her believe that nothing is impossible to overcome.” The 30-year-old blessed with brains and beauty (lawyer and ex beauty queen are on her CV too) adds: “Your family is your rock. She was our rock even though she felt that we were hers. We got strength from her willingness to live.”
Meanwhile Rita touches on how critical it is for patients to maintain a positive support system during treatment. “A positive mentality is one of the most important things to win against this adversity. Surround yourself with people who lift you up and make you laugh, never give up, ” she says.
By promoting positive messages like these, whether over the counter or through digital media, Carolina Herrera shows how committed it is in the fight against breast cancer. Plus, the brand that’s synonymous with avant-garde elegance is fundraising to support research and increase awareness all over the world. In the UAE and KSA, CH Carolina Herrera has pledged to donate a portion of all ready-to-wear sales made on October 19 to breast cancer associations in the region, namely Pink Caravan (UAE) and Zahra Association (KSA).
Carolina Herrera’s powerful motto – We won't give up – will be spread in order to unite, cheer up and comfort patients and their loved ones. Crucial prevention and early detection – through self-exploratory exams – will continue to be the main issues promoted by CH PINK. The initiative will also highlight the importance of love, family, friendship, hope and of tiny gestures like a smile, a wish or a hug, which are important in the daily fight against breast cancer.
A Glimmer of Hope
Great improvements have been made in the last decade as far as treatments and therapies are concerned. What’s more, due to the enormous rise in awareness and visibility, and with more people going for regular check-ups, early detection has grown, which has increased the chances of survival and finding a better cure.
