Growing up in a in a family of doctors and engineers, Ruba aspired to be just like the others in her family, and worked hard to develop herself through her studies and by attending scientific and academic conferences.

“I felt as if I’d reaped the fruits of my hard work, especially since I was chosen from amongst more than 28,000 students”, she said. As a member of the student council, Ruba is expected to participate in the University’s policy and regulation development. The Student Council represents the university students in academic and matters, and is the link between the Tennessee Federal Government, university students, and the city in general.

The council discusses social and legal issues at the state level which may include issues related to the increased cost of living, gun laws, university fees and the rights of all ethnic groups.

Ruba is studying Political Science and International Studies, a specialization that includes the study of global government systems in general, and that of the United States in particular, in addition to other world issues such as terrorism and the international economy.

“I had political viewpoints and aspirations, but this wasn’t a determining factor in my choice. During my language studies in the first semester, I found the material I was required to read reflected a distorted image of my country, Saudi Arabia. I want my country to have its true image reflected, and I am doing my best to offer a true representation of its people and their values. I want everyone to see Saudi Arabia’s international and humanitarian aid. I want people to know that Saudi citizens get free education and free medical care,” she said.

Ruba hopes to succeed in her undergraduate studies then move on to get an MA and a PhD.
