Ghaziyah al-Dossari and Abeer al-Jaber, remember the names because these two Saudi Arabian women just made history by being the first female fire-fighters.
The trail-blazing women were trained by Saudi Aramco in firefighting operations. This program is the first of its kind in the country, and has been previously dominated by men. Both women were ecstatic about the prospect as they expressed their enthusiasm, “I am happy to be part of this opportunity that represents equality, especially as I can get to work alongside my male colleagues,” said al-Jaber to Arab News.
Ghaziyad al-Dossair also expressed how it was her dream to join the fire-fighting department; she mentioned how she was inspired by her father - who was also a fire-fighter. She added that her family was extremely proud that she was inheriting his profession.
The happening also prompted field professionals to officiate the moment, where senior petroleum scientist, and Oil & Gas Woman of the Year 2017, Dr. Abeer al-Olayan, took to twitter to give a statement: “And for the first time in the Kingdom’s history, Saudi Aramco’s fire protection department awards the first Saudi female fire-fighters.”
