The Golden Globe Awards, which took place on January 6, was the first major Hollywood ceremony of this year's awards season. And Tinseltown’s fashion elite did not let us down as they made their way into the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Rather, the galaxy of stars really took the heat up a notch while kicking off this year’s red carpet season.

Charlize Theron in Dior Haute Couture

Winning black dresses included Penelope Cruz’s pearlescent floral jacquard ballgown, which featured a silk velvet halter neck bow, a Chantilly lace overlay and scattered metallic gold crystals. Known for her flawless looks, “BlacKkKlansman” star Laura Harrier, also opted for the elegant colour of night in a plunging, embellished neckline and sequinned skirt.
Dakota Fanning in Armani Privé
Danai Gurira in Rodarte
Emma Stone in Louis Vuitton
However, stars also pushed their red carpet game to the next level with some popping colours. Lupita Nyong’o slayed in a royal blue strapless gown with sparkles that dripped all the way down to her silver (Aldo) sandals, which she proudly displayed on the red carpet. Another “Black Panther” actress, 40-year-old Danai Gurira, stunned in a one-shoulder fiery coloured embroidered dress with a bigger-than-big bow.
Gemma Chen in Maison Valentino
Halle Berry in Zouhair Murad
Kristen Bell in Zouhair Murad
Some jaw-dropping looks also came in softer colours. Regina King, who won Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture for her role in “If Beale Street Could Talk,” owned the night in a form-fiiting dazzling light pink sequinned strapless dress. And Lady Gaga, 32, stole the show in a periwinkle creation that was especially designed for her. Channelling Judy Garland’s 1954 look, the Best Actress in a Drama nominee’s dress had pleated detail, dramatic bell sleeves and a head-turning train. Striking ice blue hair and a reported $5million worth of custom-made Tiffany diamonds complemented the always unpredictable star’s look.

Plus, from peach to blush and anything in between, neutral dresses won the Golden Globes in a huge way. Nominee Constance Wu rocked an ethereal yet edgy nude-toned gown with an orange velvet belt and sheer corset bodice, while Kiki Layne stepped up in a princess-worthy gown featuring a caged bodice. And a surprising look we’re still obsessing over came courtesy of Julia Roberts. The “Homecoming” star was a red carpet frontrunner in a nude top with a long train and perfectly tailored black trousers. Then, of course, there was nominee Emma Stone’s breathtaking pale pink gown with silver beads that were draped to look like fish scales, which took a reported 800 hours to make.

Sandra Oh in Stella McCartney
Regional designers, who dressed some of the biggest celebrities, dominated the red carpet:
Kristen Bell was also a vision in pale pink. The nominated “Good Place” actress looked ultra-feminine in a Zouhair Murad dress that featured a plunging neckline and matching waist belt. It was just one of the dresses that proved Arab designers never disappoint when it comes to gracing the red carpet with the top styles. Halle Berry, 52, also wore a dress by the same top Lebanese designer. The awards presenter looked extremely sexy in a long sheath wine coloured dress with plunging neckline, asymmetrical detail at the waist, thigh-high split and multiple sheer lace panels. Anne Hathaway’s bold leopard print dress, with shiny accents around the bust, clocked in one more win for another one of Lebanon’s best designers, Elie Saab. And nominated comedy queen Melissa McCarthy wore a bright purple layered, long sleeve dress with matching sash and silver star-shaped embellishments trailing down the right side of the bodice from yet another Lebanese talent, Reem Acra. Yet, it was Emirati Ahmed Alkhyeli that nailed the dress worn by “Riverdale” star Lili Reinhart. Looking ravishing in a frothy red tulle gown, she wore matching eyeshadow and heels.
