The Scottish Landscape Photographer of the Year contest showed us some of the most intimate and stunning captures of Scotland. From surreal sunsets to frolicking livestock, the photographs seem to come from another world, a world that the mere human eye cannot even begin to fathom.
Allan Donald took the first prize in this competition, and rightfully so as his photos showed off the elevated and sublime Scottish Highlands. Allan was so excited at this win, as he said, "I'm lost for words but absolutely delighted with this news, thank you so much for awarding me this honour. The standard of landscape photography in Scotland is fantastic and to be given this title makes me both proud and humbled." Obviously, this is not Donald's first rodeo, as the winner has been capturing shots around the Scottish mountains for 15 years.
There are in the annual Scottish Landscape Photographer of the Year competition overall has 10 categories which all yielded in glorious views. What was particularly caught our attention is the Youth Category, which was won by Andrew Bulloch with his image of Eriskay football pitch in the Outer Hebrides. Andrew talked about his artistic gain which were quite unexpected by him, "I spotted this little football pitch on Eriskay whilst on a family holiday so I photographed the view and then went down to play football on it. I later found out it was featured by FIFA as one of the eight most unique places in the world to play football."
The contest was initaited by photographer Stuart Low to encourage and inspire photographers of all levels to explore Scotland's stunning landscapes, and to show off Scotland's natural, cultural and historic heritage to an international audience. "The standard of photography just gets better and better each year and it is truly humbling to see entries come in from across the globe," says Stuart, "Once again, talented photographers of all levels have taken to the outdoors and captured Scotland's stunning views. I'm sure they'll bring joy not only to those who won awards but they'll also inspire people from across the world to visit and marvel at our beautiful country."
