Cultural Village at Sharqiah Season
Cirque Eloise, Bollywood, F1 H20, and Red Bull Air Race, these are just a few of the mega events that are part of the Sharqiah Season, the first of 11 seasons planned for 2019 in Saudi Arabia. As the Kingdom works on boosting leisure at home, it has been developing its entertainment, arts, cultural, and heritage sectors, part of which has been to provide a packed calendar of events like Sharqiah Season throughout the year.
According to Gulf News, Sharqiah Season is a collaborative effort by the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage, the General Entertainment Authority, the General Culture Authority, and the General Sports Authority. As the first season of many to launch, it focuses on eastern province cities such as Dammam, Dhahran, Alkhobar, Al-Ahsa, and Jubail, while future seasons will focus on other regions in the Kingdom.
For a period of over two weeks, 83 events are scheduled to take place including performances by international artists such as Pitbull, Akon, French Montana, and Deadmau5, as well as world-renowned events like the Red Bull Air Race, Formula 1 H20, the Saudi Bike Show, the Cirque Eloise, the Bollywood festival, the Leonardo Da Vinci Exhibition, Multimedia Water show, Cultural Village, Egyptian opera, the Saudi Film Festival, and the country's first-ever Color Run.
For the Saudi Film Festival, which is being held in the King Abdulaziz Culture Center, Ithra, Bollywood star Salman Khan and Oscar-winning Hollywood star Cuba Gooding Jr. were in attendance, as reported by Arab News. For the Color Run, also known as the “Happiest 5K on the Planet” that celebrates healthiness, happiness, and individuality, over 10,000 people took to the streets of Alkhobar to complete a five-kilometer race while being showered with colorful dust.
