The girls of Jeddah have geared up for their very own inaugural urban all-female race called “We Own Jeddah.” Yes, you heard it right! The run is organized by the Jeddah Running Collective Women, the first female running crew in Jeddah powered by Movement Jeddah and supported by Nike Middle East.
The run, which will take place on the 15th of April 2017, in the Saudia City compound, is expected to be covering distances of 5km and 10km.
Registrations were open to all female residents with a fee of SR 30, through the collective’s website. Unfortunately due to the exceeding number of participants, registrations have been closed but you can still sign up on the waiting list. If you’re lucky and someone decides cancel, you get to jump in. Part of the race fees will be donated to the Zahra Breast Cancer Association.
Race trainings for those already registered have already begun and will go on till the big run.
Those registered have also been advised on a dress code for the run. Participants wearing leggings must cover the legs down to the calves and cannot wear shorts. Tank tops are not allowed as shoulders must be covered. A hat/bandana will come in handy due to the weather conditions.
The Jeddah Running Collective encourages all their runners to actively involve, support and inspire their female members in an effort to change the narratives of the female running scene in the Kingdom.
