In the spirit of the holy month, Instagram is highlighting Ramadan and sharing a heart-warming message by creating a filter – uniting the world through a lens (and a filter).
Named “Lantern”, Instagram is calling for inclusivity, kindness and tolerance, the filter features “bokeh” and arabesque crescent moon shapes akin to those often adorned by lanterns and Middle Eastern traditional art. Not only is the filter a delightful way to take photos with your friends and family, Ramadan is trending on Instagram as the social media platform asks its users to use a particular hashtag their shared “acts of kindness” with #monthofgood.
The Ramadan hashtag and filter has simply been implemented to unite the global community – which is also a perfectly appropriate way to marry modern technology with tradition and religion.
Speaking about the filter and social media campaign, Strategic Partner Manager, MENA at Instagram, Samer Jamal said, "Kindness does not have to be a grand gesture. In fact, small and unexpected acts can have a huge impact on someone’s day. That’s why we’re delighted to launch #MonthOfGood and our first ever Ramadan camera effect so that people on Instagram have a fun and creative way to express their good deeds and celebrations this Holy Month. We can’t wait to be inspired by the acts of kindness – big and small – shared by the Instagram community this Ramadan."
