Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge proved to be the Queen of Royal Ascot fashion once again during the first day of the famous annual five-day long horse racing event. Despite the rain, she made sure to offer a masterclass in style, wearing an outfit by renowned Lebanese couturier Elie Saab for the first time. And we can’t think of a better way to debut a look than arriving in a traditional carriage alongside the Duke of Cambridge, the Duchess of Cornwall and the Prince of Wales.
While the stylish mother-of-three has worn white lace to her two previous Ascot appearances, this time she looked stunning in a periwinkle blue shade, a similar colour Princess Diana wore during a visit to Australia. The semi-sheer delicate and ornate outfit is believed to be a bespoke version of one of Saab’s looks from his Resort 2019 collection. It features a silk pussy bow accent, intricate lace detailing and macramé trim on the long sleeves. The tulle skirt comes with embroidered dots, seen also on the sleeves, and an A-line silhouette.
The length of the skirt adheres to the notoriously strict dress code that has to be followed in the Royal Enclosure. Female guests have to wear dresses or skirts that are knee length or longer. And as hats are of the highest fashion order during one of the highlights of the British royal social calendar, the Duchess of Cambridge paired her outfit with a matching Philip Treacy design featuring a sculptural flower. The brunette beauty wore the stunning wide-brimmed fascinator at an angle, exposing a pretty, braided chignon.
Spotted chatting to royal couples from Spain and the Netherlands, the former Middleton also accessorised with a clutch from Elie Saab. The bag from the designer who has dressed the likes of Angelina Jolie, Halle Berry, Priyanka Chopra and Katy Perry came with brushed metal bands and a leather back. She finished off her monochrome look with silver classic point-toe Gianvito Rossi pumps in metallic nappa, named “Gianvito 105.” Plus, the royal upcycled a pair of Kiki McDonough blue topaz and diamond drop earrings.
Coordinating with the Duchess of Cambridge in different shades of blue, female members of the royal family seemed to have all received the same memo for the event.
The Queen, Princess Beatrice (in Maje) and Princess Eugenie (in Calvin Klein) all stepped out in ensembles in cerulean hues. We can’t wait to see more gorgeous Ascot looks.
