In March 2019, renowned actress Lupita Nyong’o attended the premiere of her acclaimed film “Us” at the SXSW Film Festival in Austin, Texas donning a stunning outfit by Saudi Arabian label Honayda. At the time, many were still unaware of the fashion brand by Saudi native Honayda Serafi. This week, however, more people are getting to know the name Honayda as another A-list celebrity was seen in not one but two dresses by the Saudi label.
According to various news sources, Priyanka Chopra Jonas attended the second wedding of her brother-in-law Joe Jonas and his partner Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner in France at Château de Torreau in Sarrians. As reported by The National, the Quantico actress wore a gown as part of the pre-wedding festivities. The news site stated that one of Chopra’s choices was a shimmering metallic dress, and according to Emirates Woman, she also wore a strapless satin gown from the SS19 collection for the rehearsal dinner at the Hotel de la Mirande in Avignon.
This isn’t the first time Chopra has chosen a piece from Honayda to wear. Earlier this year, the actress was seen at Cannes Film Festival 2019 in an ivory, pleated, corset jumpsuit by the Saudi Arabian brand. Speaking to Vogue at the time, designer Serafi explained that Chopra chose a look that “is both feminine with the corset, and extremely powerful at the same time, translating the attitude of the boss women.”
Honayda Serafi was born and raised in Saudi Arabia, her mother a fashion and art historian and her father a well-known patron. Serafi reportedly studied Islamic art before moving to Paris to study fashion at Parsons. Her name Honayda is the sword's sheath in Arabic. Her designs have been previously worn by rapper Eve at the 2019 Grammy Awards and by Olympic skater Lindsey Vonn for the 2019 Oscars ceremony.
