Emmys 2019: 22 Best-Dressed Stars

Whether the stars turned out in playful vibes, vibrant colours or metallics and sequins, there were so many fashion slayers.

With a night chock-full of moving speeches and historic wins, there really were a lot of must-see moments at the 71st Primetime Emmy Awards Sunday night. For example, Pose actor Billy Porter broke down in tears as he made history winning the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. Plus, of course, Alex Borstein, who won the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress for her role in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, inspired women to #StepOutOfLine. And those kinds of jaw-dropping moments certainly didn’t stop when it came to the stunning display of gowns the biggest stars in television stepped out in for the Emmy purple carpet.

Kim Kardashian and Kendall Jenner, who had their own memorable moment in LA’s Microsoft Theater when they got the audience to unintentionally laugh, drew all kinds of attention. Jenner’s loud floral Richard Quinn dress featured a black latex turtleneck and sleeves, while Kardashian opted for a classic black figure-hugging Vivienne Westwood gown and standout chain necklace, which she layered with another one. The Good Place star Kristen Bell also stole the lights as she whirled and twirled in a backless Dior dress. The gorgeous gown was embellished with countless beads, with some organised into ribbons on the tulle skirt. Also, Best Leading Drama Actress in a Drama Series winner Jodie Comer always manages to nail the red carpet. An award winner, Comer, who plays Killing Eve’s assassin Villanelle, looked ironically angelic in a white custom Tom Ford gown.

The leading ladies from Game of Thrones, one of the night’s big winners including the last prize, Outstanding Drama Series, also brought the glamour to their final Emmys for the HBO show. Sophie Turner, aka the Queen in the North, radiated in a feminine blush-coloured Louis Vuitton gown, which she accessorised with a head-turning diamond necklace. Meanwhile, Maisie Williams, who played another Stark princess, looked uber-sophisticated in a black crystal embellished J W Anderson gown. Additionally, Emilia Clarke heated things up while arriving in a plunging navy blue number with a criss cross back by Valentino, along with the mother-of-all-earrings.

Refreshingly, the A-listers also embraced colour for the annual awards ceremony, whether soft pastels or brighter hues. Zendaya channelled Poison Ivy in a custom Vera Wang emerald green corset gown with thigh-high slit, while Jameela Jamil was one of the many actresses to sashay in a pastel hue. The British actress’s cold shoulder vibrant aqua Monique Lhuillier gown featured an impressive trail. What’s more, there was a surprising red and pink colour block trend, with Taraji P. Henson, Susan Kelechi Watson and Mandy Moore getting the memo. Empire star Henson was once again a fashion queen in a cascading sheer cape dress, another custom Vera Wang creation.
