Popular South Korean boy-band, BTS, made history in Saudi Arabia as they became the first international entertainers to perform in a solo concert. Their performance kicked off Riyadh Season which started on 11th October as they sang their best hits to 60,000 fans at the King Fahd International Stadium.
BTS band members, RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook, entertained fans as part of their “Love Yourself: Speak Yourself” world tour which featured the group singing their greatest hits with spectacular high energy dance performances by the group. To show their delight at performing in Saudi Arabia, BTS showed gratitude to their Saudi fans by thanking and greeting them in Arabic, and also, much to their fans’ delight, the K-Pop boyband sang “Happy Birthday” to group member, Jimin, in Arabic so that fans would be able to sing along and celebrate with them – and of course, videos of the band’s gestures and first attempt at Arabic went viral on social media.
BTS aren’t the first K-Pop band to perform in Saudi Arabia as the kingdom saw Super Junior, take to the stage as part of Jeddah Season this summer, which was a major success. Riyadh Season is one of Saudi’s biggest events this year as it is set to host over 100 events and activities across 12 zones in the capital city. Each zone will have a theme, such as desert, fantasy, speed, taste, explore, inspire and joy.The festival will also be hosting a number of musical concerts with performances by Middle Eastern favorites including, Nancy Ajram, Assala, Hussein Jasmi, Tamer Hosny and many more that are yet to be announced.
The 70 day festival will also be hosting the Wizard of Oz musical for two weeks – and it’s not to be missed as it will feature special effects and the classic songs we all know and love.
