On the heels of her recent visit to the Middle East, Tory Burch has designed a new capsule collection of kaftans. The designer, who has a longstanding commitment to the region, has created four one-of-a-kind kaftans that feature exceptional craftsmanship. The pieces will be gifted to Esmod, one of Dubai’s most established fashion schools,after being displayed at the Tory Burch pop-up experience at Level Shoes in the Dubai Mall until November 13.
The kaftan may be a Tory Burch signature silhouette, appearing in most of the brand’s collections, however these four pieces are undoubtedly special. They took nearly 300 hours to complete and each kaftan was hand-stitched by a team of seamstresses in the brand’s New York City atelier.
Art, music, travel and interiors inspire Burch, and so do her stylish parents.She fell in love with the shape of kaftans as she admired her mother wearing them while entertaining guests during the summer. “The kaftan is a classic piece and reminds me of the chic, effortless attitude of women in the Seventies, including my mother,” the American designer, renowned for her classic and bohemian aesthetic, said. “Après-swim, she would tie up her wet hair and throw on a kaftan over her maillot, unbelievably stylish.”
THE IVORY EMBELLISHED KAFTAN
As if hundreds of Swarovski crystals aren’t enough as embellishment, each crystal on the Tory Burch Ivory Embellished Kaftan is set in gold leather and hand-sewn to ivory silk dupioni, forming a diamond pattern.
Cut close to the body, the exquisite kaftan, which is the centerpiece of the collection, has a slim shape with gentle balloon sleeves.
THE FLORAL EMBELLSHED KAFTAN
TheTory Burch Floral Embellished Kaftan celebrates the brand’s autumn/winter ready-to-wear collection with a new take on the seasonal paisley print. Crafted in a silk toile, the kaftan is lightweight and airy, plus it has a distinctly feminine silhouette with a belted waist and understated bell sleeves.
Hems are scalloped and trimmed with a Lurex-threaded black Chantilly lace, while hand-beaded flowers at the neckline are finished with crystals.
THE BLACK EMBELLISHED KAFTAN
For the Tory Burch Black Embellised Kaftan, hundreds of sequins and pailettes have been hand-embroidered in a unique dégradépattern, a technique also used in the autumn/winter ready-to-wear collection.
Another nod to the autumn collection is the poet’s sleeve featured on the piece. Crafted in black silk chiffon and lined in a silk satin charmeuse, the kaftan is fluid and soft on the skin.
THE EMBELLISHED BIRD KAFTAN
A couple of exotic birds and a burst of floating crystal flowers really make the Tory Burch Embellished Bird Kaftanunique. The parrots, each a mélange of crystals, ruched tulle and gemstones, add a playful element to the kaftan, which is cut in silk taffeta and lined in mint silk charmeuse.
Additionally, bell sleeves and side-slits provide movement,as three rows of Swarovski crystals add shine to the kaftan’s hemlines.
