From graceful velvet and head-turning metallics and sequins to all our favourite celebratory colours, Alina Anwar Couture has ensured we’re party-ready with the launch of its limited-edition festive collection. The collection is also the first-ever menswear collection from founder and Dubai-based fashion designer Alina Anwar Khan.
She’s usually inspired by her travels, nature and vintage style icons, however for this capsule collection Khan also turned to the sights, sounds and emotions of New Year’s Eve, whether it’s the sparkle of the bubbling drinks or the electrifying fireworks lighting the night sky.
“Designing to empower women has always been my main priority. Whenever people wear my designs, I want them to feel confident and to effortlessly shine without outshining others.” Khan said. “This festive season, I also challenged myself to design a limited-edition collection of tuxedos for the first time. After all, men also need something they can feel proud and confident in, just like us women.” the designer, who captures the effortless glamour her mother and grandmother radiated at special occasions, added.
For her first venture into menswear, Khan, who launched her eponymous label in 2018, has focused on expertly crafted, polished tuxedos. And the designer collaborated with award-winning Pakistani actor, director and producer Sheheryar Munawar during the design process. Worn with slim black trousers, the tuxedo jackets, whether with stunning navy quilting and touches of gold, purple with black lapels and button detailing on the sleeves or white with contrasting black silk lapels and pocket details, will surely have your partner looking dapper.
For women, Khan, who uses the finest fabrics from Paris and Milan, has created cocktail dresses and long gowns in colours traditionally associated with the festive season, starring intricate sequin detailing and metallics. While one of the velvet creations in a deep, ravishing raspberry comes with a high neck and shiny flecks highlighting the long sleeves and other parts of the floor-length gown, the other is a cocktail dress. The design features cut out shoulders and dazzling detailing on the neck and cuffs. Additionally, there’s a show-stopping long sleeved dark green velvet cocktail dress. The festive number’s cutout midriff is lined with spectacular sequined mosaic detailing and it has a unique neckline featuring a button fastening. Another gown that’s set to be the talk of any soirée is the bronze coloured full length, A-line dress with exquisite ruched, capped sleeves. While the top half of the dress is a gorgeous velvet bodice, the bottom part is made of a metallic material. Plus, there’s a similar shimmering stunner with a long sleeved black velvet top and contrasting gold skirt.
