The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2019 was a major event for the UAE and this year proved to be huge for the Arab women participating in the races.
Daughters of the UAE’s first ever motorsports star, Khaled Al Qubaisi, Amna and Hamda Al Qubaisi made history at the event as they supported the F4UAE Trophy Round at the Yas Marina Circuit in the UAE capital.
Making major waves within the racing industry, 19-year old Amnafirst emerged on the racing tracks in the single-seaters ranking in 2018, becoming the first Emirati female racing driver to reach that level in the process. She then went on to participate in the Italian F4 Championship and was one of 9 women to take part in the testing of a Formula E car for Envision Virgin Racing, which came about just a few months after Saudi Arabia lifted their driving ban on women.
At just 17, her sister Hamda also attended the Italian F4 Championship this year.
The sisters raced as team mates at Abu Dhabi’s F4UAE as they represented the Emirate, and it was just as inspiring as we thought it would be.
