As Paris Couture Week wrapped up, Arab designers like Elie Saab, Geroges Hobeika, Zuhair Murad, Tony Ward and Rami Al Ali showed they can hold their own among historic maisons like Chanel, Dior and Givenchy. The succession of breathtaking shows, which took place January 20-23 at various locations across the French capital, also confirmed how models with Arab roots, including sisters Gigi and Bella Hadid and Nora Attal can add a spell of magic to the catwalks.
Naturally, Arab influencers and style icons, all well known for their fascination with fashion, also took centre stage and left their stylish marks in the City of Light. During the four-day spectacle they proved one of the biggest weeks in the fashion calendar is undoubtedly one of the times the outfits on the attendees are as good as those seen on the runway.
Jordanian-Romanian Amina Muaddi dressed in a clingy LBD with a revealing slit for the Alexandre Vauthier show, where her footwear designs, including the T-strap crystal pump worn by Bella, hit all the right notes. Meanwhile, Lebanese/Egyptian jewellery designer Sabine Ghanem Getty looked extremely chic in a checked dress and matching coat at the Dior show. While attending the same show, Karen Wazen Bakhazi, the Lebanese influencer and eyewear designer with an eponymous label, slayed in a blue hooded number.
The event featuring the very best of design craftsmanship also saw several trendsetters who have found fame through social media rewriting the fashion rules. Whether it was Iraqi influencers Deema Al-Asadi and Rania Fawaz, Saudi star Hala Abdallah or stylist and creative director Oumayma Elboumeshouli, they all livened up the streets of Paris with their winning looks.
