Oscars 2020: 10 Top Beauty Looks

A transformational beauty switch-up is always the order of the day for the most-watched red carpet of the year.

During awards season, celebrities have been serving up some incredible hair and make-up looks. However, with the Oscars being Hollywood’s biggest night, we were bound to have the red carpet brimming with some of the most stunning beauty inspiration we’ve seen this year. The stars really pulled out all the stops at the ceremony, which took place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday.

From new bangs and bobs to voluminous curls and well-thought out updos to bold red lips, standout lashes and perfect feline flicks, click through to see who rocked the best beauty looks at the 92nd annual Academy Awards.

Zazie Beetz

We instantly fell for German actress Zazie Beetz’s bouncy and voluminous curly bangs pulled back into a top puff. “Zazie’s hair for her first Oscars was inspired by Eartha Kitt,” hairstylist Lacy Redway said. The Joker star’s natural texture really took centre stage, and she finished off her beauty look with sultry smoky eyeliner and a nude lip.

Janelle Monáe

Janelle Monáe’s hooded dress dripping in crystals may have been attention-grabbing but make-up artist Jessica Smalls made sure her beauty look held its own. The actress and singer’s striking bold red lip, subtle but sparkly lash lines and long, voluminous Lashify lashes (three sets) were the perfect combo.

Natalie Portman

If you’re thinking of getting a bob, one of the biggest celebrity trends, you won’t find better inspiration than Natalie Portman’s choppy, laid-back version with undone texture. The Black Swan actress teamed it with a feline flick, a bit of golden sparkle that matched the embroidery on her dress, a nude lip and bold brows.

Saoirse Ronan

The nominated Little Women star’s new fresh, wispy bangs went straight into our favourites’ list, and the butterfly clip and on-trend tendrils by the ear made us fawn even more over her updo. The hairstyle by Saoirse Ronan’s longtime hairstylist Adir Abergel, who took inspiration from 1950s Audrey Hepburn, was complemented with violet eyeshadow to go with her dress, eyeliner and neutral lipstick.

Margot Robbie

A bold matte siren-red lipstick was Margot Robbie’s best accessory. The Bombshell star’s classic and effortless make-up by Pati Dubroff, coupled with super sleek and classic glossy waves with a deep side part, is always a winning Hollywood combo.

Lucy Boynton

Known for her gorgeous red carpet make-up looks, Lucy Boynton did not disappoint. While we loved her striking matte red lippie, standout eyebrows and spider-like killer lashes by Jo Baker, it was her hair that really won our hearts. Hairstylist Jenny Cho glued pearls to her hairline, creating an uber chic embellished parting.

Florence Pugh

For her Oscars debut, nominee Florence Pugh rocked a cool and fresh twisted updo with an intricate row of knots. And the hairstyle by Peter Lux really helped showcase her on-trend roots. Make-up maestro Alex Babsky was behind the 24-year-old Little Women star’s make-up, and while describing the look that included dusky pink lipstick and eyeliner, he said, “Boy brows and super simple make-up.”

8 of 10
Scarlett Johansson

Rather than just securing her updo with pins, hairstylist Jenny Cho weaved in some silver string for a cool and edgy look on Scarlett Johansson. The actress with two nominations was positively glowing, with a statement smoky eye helping her look more fabulous. Make-up artist Frankie Boyd included a touch of gold to the inner corners of her eyes to make them pop.

Regina King

Regina King’s monochrome pink make-up look matched her elegant blush gown. The soft pink eyeshadow and lipstick looked so feminine. The If Beale Street Could Talk actress’s sultry lashes added some drama to the tonal vibes, while her serious side parting also helped elevate her look.

Lily Aldridge

While stepping out on the red carpet, Lily Aldridge proved how powerful a classic red lipstick can be. The rest of the Victoria’s Secret model’s make-up was simple, with a bit of sparkle and mascara for the eyes. Her softly slicked hair with a middle part and skin prepped by Flavia Lanini made other perfect touches.
