But what about bringing back a trend from around 3 decades ago, that could be the simplest yet most statement accessory you could wear?
Spring 2020 runway shows saw several favorite designers pair their creations with opera gloves from Valentino to Dior, happen to be making a comeback and not the winter type.
Recently launched, Alaa bint Hashim’s New York based, Saudi designer, Alaa Balkhy has been using design sensibilities to create some chic handmade gloves, that are piquing the interest of fashion girls.
Hand sewn in Saudi Arabia, the designer told Arab News of her inspirations and why gloves are an accessory. She became passionate about following a winter abroad, “They just became an integral part of my style. Obviously, I kept in mind that the gloves and their fabrics have to be wearable, ethereal and comfortable.”
The 30-year-old designer’s collection of gloves features lace designs in soft pastel shades such as lilac and jade green, and styles them for a more eye-catching look with stacks of rings and bracelets. The fabrics are so delicate and sheer that a good manicure will not go unnoticed, but the gloves also carry the ability to use your smartphone.
The Saudi designer has her gloves made in Jeddah, at Ot Kutyr, which is a fashion house that champions the concept of slow fashion whilst supporting local fashion talents.
Balkhy also spoke her about her brand’s ethics, “When Alaa Bint Hashim was coming into its own, one of the main aspects and missions of the brand was to have it based on slow fashion and ethics, which include fair trade and workers’ rights.”
With a woman who appreciates the glamour and nostalgia of times gone by, in mind, Alaa Balkhy is a pioneer when it comes to setting head turning trends.
