With the unfortunate reality of couples not being able to celebrate nuptials with loved ones, the UAE has recently launched an online wedding service (no joke!)
The new service was launched by the UAE’s Ministry of Justice and allows people to officially get married online. The remote wedding service was activated on April 12th 2020, and the Ministry of Justice has stated that residents and nationals can now set a date for a wedding that will be conducted via video call with a cleric after their official paperwork is approved online. According to Wam, the ministry stated, “The service includes a remote marriage contract, where the authority can communicate with the couple and the guardian at one time, and the finalization of the marriage contract without the need for all parties to take place, in order to avoid contact and ensure social distancing by all concerned members.”
The wedding ceremonies will need to be registered on the Ministry of Justice’s website, and following this procedure the couple will then book an appointment with the UAE’s ministry who will then appoint a minister to carry out the ceremony.
The minister carrying out the wedding ceremony will confirm the identity of the bride, groom, and any witnesses. The official marriage contract will then be signed electronically by the couple, after which a certificate will be referred to a court to be validated. As a last step, the specialized court will validate the marriage certificate which will then be relayed to the newlyweds via text message. Alf Mabrouk!
