Online Shopping In Saudi Arabia Jumps By 400%

Nothing like retail therapy to indulge in right now. What are you buying?

With plenty of time spent at home, it’s expected that we spend more time surfing the wonders of the Internet. Online shopping in Saudi Arabia has gone up by 400% for the past two months as the country is in lockdown. As this comes as good news for the economy, this peak also resulted in 30,000 complaints or reports of shipping delays, according to the Ministry of Commerce and Investment.

Abdulrahman Al-Hussein, the ministry’s spokesman, said to Arab News that the coronavirus pandemic is to blame for some of the holdups in delivery: “These are exceptional times. Some of these parties are not exempt and are unable to carry out commercial activity during curfew hours,” he said. Al-Hussein went on to add that teams are doing their best for customers to  receive their packages.

In an effort to ease the lockdown Saudi Arabia also announced new regulations on retail stores and reopened malls. The 13-point list of precautions includes disinfections every 24 hours, closure of entertainments venues, and a ban on paying with banknotes.
