Many world famous musical acts and artists have canceled all of their live shows for the foreseeable future as it stands due to the COVID-19 pandemic and are encouraging fans to #stayathome. Instead of just cancelling and going AWOL, our favorite singers are making major efforts to keep us entertained by hosting virtual concerts. Following the trend, regional artists are also bringing their fans the best in Arab music and the first artist hosting her very own virtual concert is Maya Diab who will serenade her fans live from her home on on YouTube tonight.
Details are yet to be released about the upcoming virtual concert, but Diab has mentioned that it will be the Arab region’s “first 360 virtual live show in the region”. Fans will be able to watch the star at 12 A.M on May 14th (UAE time) perform some of her greatest hits with a live band via a video conferencing app. This isn’t the first time Maya Diab has organized an online gig during the quarantine period: she hosted a “Behind The Screen” on April 16th where she also performed and the video is available to view on her YouTube page. So get yourself a teaser here.
The popular singer captioned her video, “When the world was forcibly silenced, the only thing that remained was the sound of nature: the whistling of the wind, the song of the birds, the melodic flow of water. At times like these, the only language that unites us all is that of music. In an effort to make our unity even stronger, I want to share my music too, so we too can be connected in these difficult times.”
Maya Diab isn’t the only star hosting her own virtual concert on YouTube or social media channels; this week, fans can expect to see Iranian-British singer Sami Yusuf on Wednesday, May 13th at 9:30 P.M in a Facebook event hosted by the Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation.
