A Minnesota fashion designer has come up with a solution for the increasing shortage of hijabs without comprimising on hygiene requirements.
Hilal Ibrahim has come up with a sanitary head scarf that can be reused and washed easily. The founder and owner of Henna & Hijabs, which is a boutique dedicated to selling hijabs and organic henna, has created and donated almost 1000 hijabs to the hijab wearing doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers battling the pandemic across Minnesota.
Ibrahim has ensured that the hijabs are made from hospital grade fabrics, and come in various colours including, blush pink, black, blue and tan. The hijabs have been designed with practicality in mind so that they don’t deter mobility for those working in hospitals, whilst maintaining religious sentiments.
The headscarves are made with a breathable jersey material that is washable in a regular washing machine. This wouldn’t be the first time that Hilal Ibrahim has collaborated with local hospitals to provide hijabs for healthcare workers; in 2019, she teamed up with Health Partners and Park Nicollet to come up with a design for hospital grade hijabs for both medical professionals and patients.
