Countries all over the world have been relaxing the lockdown and quarantine restrictions that had malls, restaurants, hotels, retail outlets and more closed for business. Now that restrictions are gradually easing, it’s a crucial time to evaluate the past and present to plan for the future. In the Middle East, governments are striving to get economic wheels back in motion and to embrace the new normal, whilst also looking to engage in conversations about how to come back from the effects of COVID-19.
Launching its first episode on June 17th, Wired Middle East has recently launched a series of live discussions that cover a number of topics that affect a variety of sectors that have been economically affected by COVID-19. ‘Wired Live’s’ first episode, entitled Regenerating Retail, will “shine a light on what retailers can do to stay alive during this time of uncertainty, and how it will change the retail industry in the long-term.” During quarantine and lockdown, the negative impacts on retail pushed many businesses to encourage customers to shop online instead to retain sales. Many smaller retailers have also suffered and have been unfortunate in having to close down completely.
Regenerating Retail is going to be moderated by Senior Editor at Wired Middle East, Ben Flanagan, and the virtual panel includes, Vice President, Strategic Merchants – Market Development, MEA, MasterCard, Sonali Bhatia; Chief Executive Officer of Majid Al Futtaim – Shopping Malls, Shireen El Khatib; and Managing Director, and CEO, eXtra, Mohamed Galal. The panel will highlight the challenges that retail businesses are facing in 4 segments: consumers, technology, operations and strategy. Those who wish to tune in can expect to discover more about how businesses can be restructured to be more responsive in times like these, and how augmented and virtual reality can enhance and change the online shopping experience, amongst other topics.
The online event is free – but you must book your space! You can register here. Regenerating Retail will take place on Wednesday, June 17 at 4pm UAE time / 3pm KSA.
