The devastating effects of the explosions in Beirut stunned the world, and left many children without their parents and families in its wake. Country leaders, organizations, and individuals from all over the world are doing everything within their power to help those affected. In the latest, the UAE has launched an initiative to help displaced children.
On August 10th 2020, the Emirates Red Crescent announced on Twitter that the children who lost their parents in the blast will be sponsored by the UAE. The tweet read, “HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra Region, and Chairman of the Emirates Red Crescent Authority directed the authority to sponsor the orphans and care for the families of the deceased and the victims of the Beirut Port explosion.”

At present, the ERC and Humanitarian Aid Office of the UAE Embassy in Beirut, are trying to find orphaned children to take responsibility of all their basic needs such as providing a home and other resources for the community in Beirut.
The initiative was explained by the secretary general of the Emirates Red Crescent, Dr Mohammed Ateeq Al Fahi who said: “Sheikh Hamdan has been monitoring the situation on the ground since the explosion and its effect on people, and is in constant contact with the ERC’s executive management to follow the progress of relief operations.”

The UAE Volunteers Program is another initiative launched by the UAE which manages the delivery of humanitarian aid and reconstruction materials to Lebanon. This program will happen in two parts; the first phase will oversee the preparation and collection of required humanitarian aid, and the second phase will take place in the UAE by volunteers, who will allow for qualified engineers to complete the initiative.
