The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALESCO) held its very first e-photography competition last week and one Saudi woman took home 1st place in the “Night Photography” category with her stunning photo entitled “Moment of Light.”
Yomn Mohammad Al Manla’s submitted image captures a moment in 2019 during the renowned Tissa Horse Festival in Morocco 2019. The event is held annually in October in honor of a 15th century local saint called Sidi Muhammed ben Lahcen, bringing in many breeders, horse owners, and visitors from across the globe. Al Manla’s photo beautifully captured the grace and pride of this event focused on a revered regional culture.
According to Gulf News, Al Manla is a member of the International Federation of Photography and the American Society of Photography, and she is also a proud Saudi, taking her win as an opportunity to express her gratitude to the Kingdom for what she described as its unlimited support, without which she feels she would not been able to attain such an achievement.

The talented artist was quoted by the news site as saying that she was glad to add this new achievement to the series of Saudi photographers’ achievements, “considering herself one of the many Saudi professional photographers, who have advanced skills that can compete internationally.”
This first edition of the e-competition by ALECSO is one of many programs the organization has launched since its creation in 1970. ALESCO is a Tunis-based institution of the Arab League, and it works on coordinating cultural and educational activities across the Arab world.
