Egyptian pop icon and idol Amr Diab, who is known all over the world for his catchy Arabic music, will be taking his music and fame to higher levels. Diab has plans to hit the small screen once again in a new Netflix original Arabic series.
Taking to social media on the 18th August to announce the exciting new project, he captioned an Instagram post: “I am thrilled to work with Netflix on this new project. I have always believed that art is a global language, and we have been able to build bridges of connections and love with diverse cultures through music. And, now with this new project with Netflix, I am excited that we will be reaching more than 193 million members in more than 190 countries around the world where they will be able to watch new content made in Egypt and enjoyed by the world.”
The 58-year-old superstar has almost 12 million Instagram followers who are all wanting more information on the forthcoming show – though it seems to be under wraps for now!
In a statement, the director of Arabic series at Netflix, Ahmed Sharkawi said: “For the past thirty years, Amr Diab has captured people’s hearts all over the world. He is a trendsetting icon who resonates with different generations through his music and talent. We are confident that this new project will excite fans and members for the glorious return of Amr Diab to screen.”
The multi-awarded singer's first dip into music was in the 80s and ever since, he has been topping the charts around the world and has even had some roles in Bollywood movies. Diab has also made history as he broke the Guinness World Record for being the first Arab singer to have received the highest number of international awards for the most album sales in the MENA region.
