On the 7th and 8th of October, Saudi Arabia will bring together industry leaders, experts, and researchers for the 2020 Global AI Summit, organized by the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) under the theme “Artificial Intelligence For The Good Of Humanity.” The event is described on its official website as “the world's premier platform for dialogue that brings together stakeholders from public sector, academia and private sector, including technology companies, investors, entrepreneurs and startups to shape the future of Artificial Intelligence (AI).”
The Global AI Summit, which is being held under the patronage of Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, will take place remotely, connecting all participants and audience members virtually, in line with global and local efforts being taken to protect people from the current COVID-19 pandemic. The event will specifically focus on the power of data and AI, the need for collaboration, creation, and investment, while also empowering a new generation of thinkers.
The summit will offer a carefully curated schedule of keynote speeches, debates, panels, interactive activities, and more, all geared towards exploring “what the new global era means to AI, how AI's transformational potential can be best used to create a better future for all, and what this means for policy and decision makers interested in leveraging the potential, for the good of humanity.”
Saudi Arabia has increased its focus on the importance of AI of late, working on initiatives and programs that aim to initiate discussions and collaboration on AI, including its many applications, its impact on development both socially and economically, and the challenges and opportunities that it creates. For instance, in January of this year, the Kingdom hosted the world’s first AI Art hackathon in Riyadh, gathering some 300 experts in data science and AI, graphic designers, and artists for three days to compete on creating visual art pieces using AI.
