Under the leadership of Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman and his Vision 2030 plan, we have witnessed Saudi Arabia make history time and time again to modernize society whilst eradicating gender discrimination and empowering Saudi women every step of the way.
In the country’s latest move to encourage better and ethical working environments, providing equal opportunities, and addressing work related issues, the Saudi Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development recently issued an order to ensure that the gender pay gap is closed.
In a statement the ministry said that “the employer is prohibited from distinguishing between their workers, whether during the performance of work or when hiring or advertising it, such as sex, disability, age, or any other form of discrimination.”
In 2019 at the Misk Global forum, Prince Abdul Aziz Bin Salman, Saudi’s energy minister, lauded the Crown Prince for providing Saudi citizens with equal opportunities, as he said, “We know that our women now are enabled, they have an education program. We have equal pay for both men and women.”
It seems this new change has been welcomed by Saudis and many have agreed that it would inspire and encourage more women to join the workforce and become financially independent.
