Congrats! Turfah Al-Mutairi has become the first Saudi woman to earn herself a license from the General Authority for Military Industries (GAMI) for a military outfit factory.
For her bachelor’s, Al-Mutairi majored in arts and design from Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University, where she specialized in textile design. Al-Mutairi honed her skills as she attended training programs on SMEs at Leipzig University and promoted industrial innovation and technological facilities from the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). According to Arab News, she also worked to get qualifications from UNIDO in industrial policies and planning strategy.
Working as an educationalist at Al-Riyadh Schools from 1999 to 2009, Al-Mutairi also founded the Sondos Al-Dibaj Trading Co., the Sondos Advanced Manufacturing Co. and the Sondos Al-Dibaja Factory for Civil and Military Textile Industries.
In close contact with international companies, Al-Mutairi’s military outfit factory stands among the first of five companies to receive licenses from GAMI.
The deputy head of the businesswomen’s committee at the Riyadh Chamber, Al-Mutairi hopes to expand the Saudi market and build more ties with international companies to take the field to the next level. “The sky is the limit,” she said quote the Crown prince Mohammad Bin Salman. So far, the Saudi female leader closed down meetings with Chinese and Greek industrial companies.
Al-Mutairi currently employs 170 workers in her factory, most of whom are women, and will hire a further 213 new employees as part of its expansion strategy, according to Arab News.
