As part of the Eishy Bilady campaign, the organizing committee of the UAE’s 49th National Day Celebration called for the country’s citizens and residents to record themselves singing the UAE national anthem and submit it.
The words “eishy bilady” in Arabic, translates to “long live our country” and are the first two words of the UAE national anthem. The campaign itself, on that notion, aims to unite people from all over the UAE in a pandemic friendly way for National Day.
The recordings of people singing the national anthem will be filtered through and some will be selected to be broadcast as part of the official National Day live show that will be held in Abu Dhabi on December 2nd 2020. Submissions will also be shared across the official National Day social media channels.
In honor of the UAE’s upcoming National Day, a website has been created where people can find all of the information about the campaign. Moreover, videos can be found via the official national day social media channels; Twitter, Facebook and Instagram with the tag @OfficialUAEND and #Eishy_Bilady hashtag. All ages, singing abilities and nationalities took part in the event, which closed its submissions on 30th November 2020.
One of the organizers of the National Day, Khalfan Al Mazrouei, event touched on the protocols and safety measures being adhered to and stated, “With COVID-19 restrictions on public celebrations, this mass performance of the national anthem provides an opportunity for people across the country to unite in song, providing solace through music in these trying times. This year, more than ever, is important for the community to come together as one voice in hope and positivity for the future.”
