After announcing the closure of its borders last week, Saudi Arabia extended its travel ban for another week in a response to the new Covid-19 variant, which erupted in the UK.
The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported that the Ministry of Interior said that closing air, land and water borders is a precautionary measure against the spread of the new strain.
Exceptions apply to the travel ban such as non-Saudi citizens wanting to exit the Kingdom. The Ministry is willing to extend the travel ban for as long as necessary to mitigate the spread of the virus.
More than 50 countries also imposed some travel restrictions on Britain as a result of the new virus.
The Kingdom was also amongst the first countries to close its borders at the early stages of the novel coronavirus in March.
