Arab cinema has been making waves on a number of international platforms in the past few years and the start of 2021 happens to be no different as there is an Egyptian film about to make its international debut at the Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival on 29th January in France.
Following its premiere in Europe, the film entitled “Tuk Tuk” will then be screened at the 29th edition of the Los Angeles Pan African Film Festival (PAFF), which will run from 29th January to 6th February 2021. PAFF is the Los Angeles-based film festival that was established in 1992 to highlight works that convey the diverse stories of Africa and the global black diaspora.
The festival screens more than 150 new international films from countries such as America, Africa, Europe and Latin America every year.
Directed by Mohamed Kheidr, “Tuk Tuk” is centered around the character Walaa, a young woman, played by 2009 Miss Egypt winner, Elham Wagdi, who is pushed to become a rickshaw driver in a desperate bid to support her family after her husband illegally flees the country.
