As Saudi Arabia revealed its vision last week to transform its capital city of Riyadh into one of the top 10 global economies in the world, it also announced the establishment of a company that will aim to develop the Kingdom’s cruise industry. Cruise Saudi is a Jeddah-based company launched by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), as part of the Kingdom’s various efforts to promote its tourism industry and the key goal of its bid to diversify its economy from its reliance on oil production, in line with Vision 2030.

As part of PIF’s 2021 - 2025 strategy, Cruise Saudi is working with relevant authorities to develop marine tourist destinations around the Kingdom, while preserving natural wildlife. These destinations include many of the kingdom’s famous islands, as well as cultural and heritage sites, which are popular with tourists who go by boat. It won’t just be beneficial to tourism, as Cruise Saudi aims to create over 50,000 jobs in the tourism industry.

In fact, there already have been efforts to promote the sea cruise and tourism industries around the kingdom. For instance, Silversea and the Red Sea Cruise Ship Company are amongst the cruise companies recently established to take guests around stunning Saudi coasts and destinations. In addition, these cruise ships offer memorable dining experiences, luxurious spas, and live performances. Experienced divers may also go on these cruise ships to accompany those who would like to explore the Red Sea reefs, or take up other water activities such as jet skiing, or surfing.
