The Ministry of Culture just announced that it has appointed Burak Cakmak to lead the Saudi Fashion Commission. Prior to this landmark appointment, Cakmak was a Dean of Fashion at the prestigious Parsons School of Design at The New School in New York from 2015 until last summer.
His responsibility as CEO of the commission include managing, organizing and developing the fashion sector in Saudi Arabia.
Cakmak has plans to boost investment into the Saudi fashion industry and review the sector’s laws and regulations. The fashion commission will also focus on supporting local professionals and entrepreneurs, and lay out suitable educational and professional programs.

Cakmak also nabbed high-profile leadership positions such as his time as a sustainability consultant at the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). According to Arab News, Cakmak attended the Fashion Futures conference in Riyadh last month, which included the first large-scale runway show to be held in the Kingdom at Tuwaiq Palace.
