Alwaleed Philanthropies aims to support Saudi female artisans through its new brand Mizwada. With the addition, the female-run charitable organisation is providing opportunities for women to develop their artistic and technical skills, while also making economic opportunities available. Alwaleed Philanthropies, which has initiated over 1,000 projects in nearly 200 countries, is offering additional training and access to new markets to sell their products too.
Mizwada is the result of a unique partnership between the philanthropic foundation, which includes the preservation of Saudi Arabian heritage, arts and crafts as one of its main objectives, and Teeb. Through its partnership with Teeb, a multi-disciplinary Saudi design and production company that produces handcrafted exotic wooden artistry, skilled artists that make the handcrafted products for Mizwada will benefit from the sale of each product.

Labelling itself as a “bridge that connects our past to our present,” Mizwada is a brand that enables consumers to relive their ancestral past, through the recreation of Saudi heritage’s arts and crafts as modern-day objects that stand alone in their beauty. The products by the crafts workers, who produce an array of items ranging from leather goods and wood-work to ceramics, are deeply influenced by decades of unique Arab and Islamic culture. As well as reflecting Saudi Arabian heritage and culture the pieces that make purposeful goods and gifts are made lovingly using locally resourced materials.
“Two key challenges are clear among this sector, unemployment, and the lack of adequate skills training. We must work together to overcome these through programmes that place women and girls at the heart of their initiatives,” HRH Princess Lamia bint Majed AlSaud, Secretary General of Alwaleed Philanthropies, said. “Our artisans produce products of a high quality and standard, with each product going through a lengthy process of quality control, resulting in products with best quality and perfect finishing. They are modern objects, but do however, translate our history and heritage.”
As part of the launch, Alwaleed Philanthropies is collaborating with PIK, a local app in the Kingdom that will help make the products easily available to shoppers, alongside the Teeb website.
