When it comes to women in Oman’s hip-hop and R&B scene, one name often pops up and that is Emaan Zadjali, an Omani-American singer-songwriter. With a passion for music, Zadjali is best known for her live performances (in both English and Arabic) in Oman and has a strong following on Instagram. Aside from being a part of Oman's growing music scene, she is also the talent behind her hit Instagram video "Helwa Oman" marking Oman's National Day in 2015, and "We Are Young," a theme for the telecommunication company Ooredoo.
Growing up to an Oman father and an American mother, Zadjali was born and raised in Illinois, United States, and would move to Oman at the age of six. Since then, she often moves between Oman and the United States.
As a child, Zadjali was no ordinary Omani girl in the eyes of her family. In fact, they would help pave her career as a singer from an early age. Zadjali has vivid memories of watching her mother prepare for singing competitions, while singing songs like "Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend." This inspired her to be just as good as her mother, while paying attention to voices of famous artists like Jazmine Sullivan and Christina Aguilera. By the age of 12, she even took up guitar and singing lessons, and had partaken in a handful of elementary school musicals.
Currently, Zadjali is an artist for Boston-based Wealthcare Records since 2019. Although a musician, she is also a retail specialist at the Boston Rose Florist. She has also worked as social media marketing specialist for the Red Room @ Cafe 939 and was an event coordinator for Muscat-based 808. Presently, she is in her third year at Berklee College of Music, a private music college in Boston, Massachusetts, majoring in Professional Music. Her main subject concentrates on Performance and Songwriting.
