With her Pre-Fall 2021 collection, Donatella Versace is appealing to a wide-ranging variety of people with designs that celebrate personality and individual identity. The new ultra-glamorous yet wearable must-have pieces found in “Le Muse” have been crafted with a world that has evolved and changed in mind. The collection infused with a joyful essence delves into today’s new needs and desires and extends the sense of warmth that’s necessary at the moment.
Inspired by modern muses, the collection is noticeably played down compared to the colourful, animated spring one. Prints make a scant appearance via the Baroccoflage motif and at the same time the logos have been toned down. While the more subdued colour palette focuses on block black and caramel, pops of bright hues like reds, oranges and electric blues do make an appearance. As well as the unexpected colour matchings, there are some unpredictable fabric mixes, with the high-end Italian house opting for luxe and workable fabrics, including recycled and eco-sustainable light wools. And although the strong, clean and streamlined silhouettes, sharp cuts and precise contours make for the kind of chic and sophisticated collection we expect from Versace, comfort was undoubtedly the buzz word while the pieces were being created.
Sleek black leather is definitely one of the highlights of the collection that oozes a 90s vibe. The cool look has always been integral to the brand and fans can find it in the form of tailored blazers, A-line skirts and dresses here. Seamlessly worn from day to night, the new season’s little black dress also comes in heavy jersey and is sometimes embellished with broken-up Versace bijoux. On another dress front, sporty sweatshirts have been turned into dresses with nipped-in waists.
The bold accessories come in punchy hues, as well as black and caramel. Named after the brand’s iconic signature, the new hobo-style “La Medusa” handbag is adorned with the face of the mythical woman and comes in three sizes and a kaleidoscope of shades. Versace has also refreshed the classic “Virtus” line, with new finishes including ecological faux fur.
