As the deadline to apply for this year’s edition of the Inspiring Women in Science Award approaches, Saudi Arabia’s female researchers and those engaged in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) are being encouraged to send their applications by the June 20 deadline. Winners are selected in two categories and will be announced in October of this year during a dedicated ceremony.
The annual award program, which was formerly known as Inspiring & Innovating Science, aims to promote the inclusion and equal integration of women in scientific research and education. Administered by Nature Research Awards in partnership with The Estée Lauder Companies, the award will select two and present each with a monetary grant of $40,000 (USD), as well as mentoring and other publicity opportunities.
The two categories of the award program are: Science Outreach, which is awarded to a project, organization, or program that empowers women in STEM careers or supports girls and young women to engage with STEM subjects; and Scientific Achievement, which is presented to early-career female researchers who have made significant contributions to scientific discovery and literature despite challenges faced.
This year’s winners will be chosen by an independent panel of judges comprising academic scientists, external experts, and staff members of Nature Portfolio and The Estée Lauder Companies. A shortlist will be announced in September and the final winners in October.
