The Saudi Press Agency announced this week that artworks shown this year during the first annual Noor Riyadh festival of art and light earned two Guinness world records. Congrats!
Carolina Halatek's "Beacon" set a new record for the largest LED (light-emitting diode) structure. The artwork had 272,160 LEDs and was on display at the King Abdul Aziz Historical Center from March 18 to April 3.
The Belgian artist Koert Vermeulen's "Star in Motion" was suspended from the Kingdom Center tower at a height of 256 meters and radiated 1.2 million lumens. It was the brightest hung ornament in the world at the time.
From March through June, Noor Riyadh showcased a number of installations and events throughout the city, including the Light on Light exhibition at the King Abdullah Financial District Conference Center - a major retrospective of light art from the 1960s to the present day.
Helmed under Riyadh Art Project under Vision 2030, Noor Riyadh aims to install over 1,000 public artworks throughout the city. More than 60 artists from more than 20 countries, including Saudi Arabia took part and offered an exciting cultural exchange. Other events such as tours, musical and cinematic performances, virtual discussions, workshops, and family activities in many locations around the city.
Over 200 volunteers have also offered their time to gain expertise in the creative field. Over 300,000 people attended the festival in total, with over 12,000 visiting the Light on Light exhibition.
