If you’ve visited Dubai within the last year, you would have noticed a unique structural wonder in the city’s DIFC area. Set to become an iconic landmark, the hollow circle-like building emblazoned with Arabic calligraphy, stands tall at 77-meters high above the emirate’s driverless metro and is almost at its completion stage. The pillarless building comprises 7 stories full of unique and interesting futuristic concepts and artefacts and is due to open with the delayed Expo 2020 in October this year.
Vice-chairman of the board of trustees and managing director of the Dubai Future Foundation, Mohammed Al Gergawi iterated in a statement that the Dubai Museum of the Future contains the UAE’s pioneering concepts and advancements in all things innovation, architecture and design.
“Dubai has established itself as a center for creativity, thanks to the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The emirate’s ambitions are reflected in an engineering miracle like the Dubai Museum of the Future,” Al Gergawi said.
Designed by engineer Sean Keila, the enormous structure has already become an iconic landmark. Not having even opened to the public as yet, the Dubai Museum of the Future is the ONLY building in the world to be constructed with superior technologies that are unavailable elsewhere. The structural wonder has already been ranked among the “14 most beautiful museums on the planet” by National Geographic and has already won an international award for its design and structure.
One of the biggest things that stands out about this museum is that in the world's history, it is the most complex, unconventional, yet sophisticated and technologically advanced buildings ever attempted and completed.
The Dubai Museum of the Future’s facade is made up of stainless steel that extends over 17,000 square meters and is made from over 1000 plates manufactured solely by robots!
These plates are adorned by 14 km of Arabic calligraphy designed by an Emirati artist, Mattar bin Lahej and spells out some of Sheikh Mohammed’s most noteworthy quotes, including, “We may not live for hundreds of years, but the products of our creativity can leave a legacy long after we are gone,” and “The future belongs to those who can imagine it, design it, and execute it… The future does not wait… The future can be designed and built today.” The windows of the museum by day are illuminated with dramatic effect LED lighting.
Maintaining the UAE’s efforts to encourage a green future and sustainability, the museum is powered by 4,000 megawatts of solar energy in partnership with the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, and will be the first museum of its kind in the Middle East to get a Platinum Certification for Leadership in Environmental Energy and Design, the highest rating for green buildings in the world. Visitors to the public museum will also be able to charge their electric vehicles and car parking spaces are limited to encourage the use of public transport, as a 212-meter-long bridge links the profile to Emirates Towers metro station.
