Paris Hilton is joining other celebrities like Selena Gomez and Amy Schumer by hosting a cooking show despite a lack of culinary experience. While making her reality television comeback, the multi-hyphenate, who has a plethora of job descriptions ranging from model and podcast host to perfume mogul and pop artist, doesn’t try to pretend to know how to really cook. Some of the official synopsis for the new lighthearted Netflix show, called “Cooking With Paris,” reads, "Paris Hilton can cook...kind of. And she's turning the traditional cooking show upside down. She's not a trained chef and she's not trying to be.”
Hilton may not be a trained chef, but she surely knows how to entertain viewers at home. The six-episode series, which debuted August 4 worldwide, shows how the hotel heiress has mastered comic timings. Inspired by her viral YouTube video with the same name of Hilton making lasagna at home, which has gathered over 5 million views, it’s full of hilarious classic Hilton personality moments. Some of these include Hilton asking Siri what lemon zest is and warning her viewers to "be careful" not to light their hair on fire while using the stovetop. Hilton, who serves as an executive producer, also burns the diamonds off her spatula and breaks the odd blender. There’s even a segment in the show where Hilton finds things in her kitchen she has never used before, including a whisk and a stand mixer, plus she gets to learn names of utensils like tongs.
And the engaged 40-year-old gets a helping hand from her celebrity friends as “she navigates new ingredients, new recipes and exotic kitchen appliances” (in fingerless gloves). Pals like Kim Kardashian, Demi Lovato, Nikki Glaser, Saweetie and Lele Pons stand alongside her as she experiments in the kitchen. Her mother, Kathy, and sister, Nicky, also appear in a show of support. According to Hilton, she and the production team came up with a list of names they thought would be fun.
During the show, the former “The Simple Life” star keeps her recipes, which range from vegan hamburgers to frittatas, in a pink cookbook with her picture on it. According to Aaron Saidman, one of the executive producers along with Eli Holzman and Rebecca Hertz, Hilton found the recipes from various sources. She also leant on the producers with culinary know-how.
Even if the meal doesn’t turn out to be so tasty, a fun time is surely had by everyone. And, of course, there are oodles of stylish moments. Whether it’s a hot pink, black or red dress, it’s clear Hilton loves to cook in couture. With lots of big sleeves, gloves, bows, sequins, shimmer and feathers, the glam kitchen wardrobe will undoubtedly set off bursts of online shopping. Viewers are also bound to learn some new party-throwing and decorating skills as Hilton decorates her pad for the dinner theme each time.
Hilton is having a busy year. She launched her own production company, Slivington Manor Entertainment, and signed a deal at Warner Bros. She also has a wedding reality show coming up, which she will also executive produce. The series highlights the wedding preparations as she gets ready for her nuptials to venture capitalist Carter Reum.
The “original influencer” as she is referred to started to make waves in the early 2000s. She then grabbed attention with her hit reality show, “The Simple Life,” also starring Nicole Richie. Last year, before making her reality TV comeback with “Cooking With Paris,” Hilton released a YouTube documentary called “This Is Paris.” In the documentary that earned fantastic reviews, she delves into her childhood trauma, revealing a very authentic and alternative side of her life.
