If, like some of us, you grew up with icons such as Naomi Campbell, Claudia Schiffer, Kate Moss and others, then this new book is a must have for your coffee table! Icon of the 90s, supermodel Claudia Schiffer has just released a book that takes fashion lovers back to that time.
‘Captivate!’ features 150 photographs, as well as unseen images from Claudia’s personal archives, and amalgamates works by some of the most noted fashion photographers of the 90s including Corinne Day, Arthur Elgort, Ellen von Unwerth, Herb Ritts, and Richard Avedon. The visual artists are behind the most notable portraits such as Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Kate Moss. Schiffer, herself, has landed on the cover of more than 1,000 global titles over a 30 year career—and still working those angles.
Schiffer states, “When you look at the last wave of the pre-digital age, you see different formats of fashion photography – from fine art prints to Polaroids, contact sheets, fashion magazines, campaigns, and model cards.” She unveiled the book at an exhibition at Kunstpalast Düsseldorf, the city in which she was first discovered at 17 dancing in a nightclub.
“As curator of this exhibition, I wanted to represent that range as well as include iconic cover shots, runway imagery, and candid backstage snaps. Captivate! is a celebration of fashion photography and of the teams of photographers, models, stylists, hair and makeup artists, and art directors that harnessed the transformative power of fashion,” she added.
The book not only exhibits some of the most iconic 90s looks, designers, models and trends, but also features commentary from an array of tastemakers of the day, including Anna Wintour, Edward Enninful, Grace Coddington, Donatella Versace, and Valentino Garavani.
