A cancer specialist renowned in the field of pathology, Dr. Al-Kuraya currently works as consultant and senior cancer specialist at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center (KFSHRC). In addition, she serves as director of the Department of Human Cancer Genomic Research, and King Fahd National Center for Children’s Cancer and Research.
Born in Al Jawf Region, Dr. Al-Kuraya earned her Master's degree in General Surgery at King Saud University. While staying in the United States, she'd later apply for the Pathology Residency program at Georgetown University Hospital, and went on to complete her fellowship in molecular diagnostics at the National Cancer Institute. She currently holds a board certification in clinical pathology.

Dr. Al-Kuraya is seen as a valuable asset in her field, an expert in translating communications between lab and clinic. She is also credited for her breakthrough research, being the first to discover the FOSM1 gene known to trigger cancer cells. In 2010, she was awarded the First Rank King Abdul Aziz Medal for her research.
Dr. Al-Kuraya has written a handful of journals based on her research, and also taken part in activities and conferences both nationally and internationally. In addition, she is a member of several associations and institutes such as the American Association for Cancer Research, College of American Pathologist, and the United States-Canadian Academy of Pathology. She was also among the very first group of women appointed to be part of the Shoura Council between 2013 and 2017.
