With every passing year, Dubai continues to build its reputation as a popular destination for art, with art fairs luring exhibitors and art enthusiasts from around the world. In fact, the city’s largest art fairs such as Art Dubai and World Art Dubai have been the must-go-to events in the region for modern and contemporary arts, but one event that truly differentiates itself by putting focus on design is Downtown Design, a platform for creators and brands to showcase their works.
Founded in 2013, Downtown Design is a key commercial part of the renowned Dubai Design Week, an annual, six-day event focusing on creative designs from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. It also features works from non-Arab countries as well. These designs touch on various aspects such as architecture, interior design, furniture, and more. Currently, Downtown Design is held under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Latifa Bint Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, a member of Dubai’s ruling family.
The next edition of Downtown Design will be held this year from November 9 to November 12, showcasing work from across the globe. The previous edition took place from November 8 to 12, 2021, and was held at the Dubai Design District (d3) Waterfront. With 159 brands and designers from 26 countries taking part, which included representatives from Italy, Spain, France, Hungary, and Austria, saying that the fair was a success would be an understatement.
For 2021, it featured “Downtown Editions,” a new and curated element dedicated to bespoke design, capsule collections, individual studios, and designer collaborations from around the world.
