Diana Princess of Wales won hearts all over the world for her humanitarian work, but also for the fact that she was young, beautiful, and a British princess. She became one of the most photographed women in the world due to her effortless, yet conservative style and later for her private life.
Having been followed and photographed constantly, and now with the internet, it's rare that there could be any unseen images of her – but it seems there are some images the public have never seen of her.
A new exhibition at Kensington Palace, where Diana lived, will unveil a never-before-seen image of her by David Bailey.
The rare image was shot in 1988 and is a black and white profile image of the late British royal, wearing simple drop earrings and a one-shoulder dress. The photograph by iconic photographer, David Bailey, was commissioned for the National Portrait Gallery, but didn’t quite make the final curation.
This unseen photograph of Lady Diana is being exhibited as part of the “Life Through a Royal Lens exhibition, and focuses on royal portraiture through the ages – including pictures taken by the public on official visits, starting with Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, through to the family members who later enjoyed taking pictures, notably Princess Alexandra, and the Duchess of Cambridge.
The exhibition hopes to convey images that the royal family can be “just like us,” through portraits and family photographs.
There are other extremely interesting and striking images from the Royal Family’s personal archives from the 19th and 20th centuries to look out for.
