Saudi universities have contributed 93% of the national output of scientific research, bolstering the Ministry of Education's efforts to support the research and innovation system. According to Saudi Gazette, this helps in translating its pivotal role in the transformation to a sustainable knowledge-based economy and meeting the Kingdom's Vision 2030 goals.

The Kingdom is seeing an increase in the number of scientific research papers published by public universities, with the most recent figures indicating a 104 percent increase in the rate of scientific research publication in 2021. This increase is commendable when compared to the period prior to the activation of the Ministry's quality initiatives to support research, development, and innovation, such as institutional funding and research and innovation partnerships.

This is in addition to a 247 percent improvement in the quality of research published in Q1 scientifically classified journals. During the same time period, the ministry's initiatives also contributed to a 75% increase in the number of active researchers.
According to the Scimago Index, the Kingdom has advanced ten places in the last four years, ranking 25th globally and first in the Arab world in the field of scientific publishing. Furthermore, national universities have seen a significant increase in the number of scientific papers published, bringing their total to more than 57,000.
