Victoria Beckham announced the launch of yet another fashion label under belt – VB Body. A new permanent capsule collection, the line consists of body hugging basics, designed to celebrate the wearer’s shape and size. Aside from her line of beauty products, VB Body is her most affordable line yet, and includes skin tight dresses, crop tops, pencil skirts and front slit leggings. The label is a cross between shapewear and ready to wear – which seems to be a celebrity label trend following Kim Kardashian’s SKIMS shape wear line which can double up as your casual clothing.
The former Spice Girl took to Instagram to share a video about her new venture and explained that the pieces in the new collection are made from a “tight knit jersey,” that “clings to the parts of the body that we want to celebrate.” She even added, “the curvier you are (ladies), the better. It’s time to celebrate our female bodies.” The dresses are inspired by her trip to Miami where she wanted to bare some more skin and was tired of burying herself under “so many layers of clothing,” which led to the conception of VB Body.
Returning to her roots with figure hugging dresses, which she became known for when she launched Victoria Beckham in 2008, under the mentorship of renowned dress designer, Roland Mouret, Beckham is dedicating this collection to “the founding principles of the brand’s DNA.”
The brand’s press release also states, “Femininity and sensuality are the foundation of VB Body," What makes this bodywear line so special is the fact that it is made from an exclusive fabric – a luxe, tight woven knitted jersey, designed to sculpt and flatter the body. The line comes in a minimal set of colors, black, white, blush and chocolate brown, which will be accented by bright colors which will be added seasonally, beginning with an orange-red shade for SS2022.
Moving away from oversized tailoring and layers, the launch of VB Body joins the current fashion industry trend of empowering women to celebrate their bodies – irrespective of size and shape – and was applauded across the runways for AW22. Lingerie worn as RTW, and figure hugging bodysuits and dresses happen to be the post-pandemic style of choice, and Victoria Beckham has been savvy enough to recognize a demand – with her own added touch of course. Moreover, the affordable price-point serves as a profitable business model, with some pieces starting at just £90.
